Glory be to Jesus Christ!
Today, and on International Woman’s Day no less, we read about the woman that Solomon, the writer of Proverbs according to Tradition, would council his son to take as his bride. It is very interesting to note the characteristics which he should chose her for because he doesn’t state…well…anything. When counseling his son, he reminds him not of “why he should choose this specific person” but of his fidelity to her.
Many people who continue day in and day out “waiting for Mr. or Mrs. right” to walk into their lives may be waiting a very very long time, because ultimately that person doesn’t exist. Sure there are people who are compatible and that compatibility is very important to explore when discerning marriage, but we must do what Solomon says here. Don’t wait for Mrs. Right, become Mr. Right. Be faithful, and content yourself in faithfulness and you will find a deeper love than in any of the other temptations out there.
Brothers and sisters, this rings true in marriage, but also with our covenant with the Lord. Solomon is in fact using this analogy to talk about the relationship between God and His people. Do not be tempted by the idols around you. Stay true to the God saves you and sets you free!
As we continue our Lenten Journey, let us continue to strive to become “Mr. and Mrs. Rights” and prepare to meet Christ the Bridegroom during Holy Week.
Glory be to Jesus Christ!
