Isaiah 6:1-12- Can’t Get Used to It

Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Have you ever heard of the Law of Diminishing Effect? It basically states that after your peak experience of something the following ones will have less of an effect on you and therefore if you want that same high (which you will actually never really achieve) you need more of it or a different version of it. In other words, we get bored of things and they don’t satisfy. Driving is exciting, until you have to drive to work every morning and then you don’t even think about it.

God can never get boring. The angels who fly around for eternity worshiping God in song continue to cover their faces as they fly because of God’s overwhelming Majesty. We will never “get comfortable” with the Sovereignty of the Lord or “learn the ropes” and be bored in heaven. We could never be “done” with The Author of Goodness, Truth and Beauty.

What is the proper response to an encounter with the Lord of Hosts? Repentance. When encountering the Ultimate, Isaiah sees himself for the man of unclean lips that he truly is. It doesn’t stop there however, because God after cleansing Isaiah sends him to prophesy to His people. This incredible encounter with the Lord is what makes Isaiah realize who he is and drives him to tell others of the Lord.

Take a few moments to examine your own heart today. Have I become bored in my relationship with God? If so, it might not be God you are bored with.

Glory be to Jesus Christ!
