Mark 9:42-10:1- What’s Your Salt Content?

Glory be to Jesus Christ!

Why is it that we enjoy French Fries so much? Because of the salt. In fact, the salt content is the reason why we enjoy most foods. If you take out the salt you will find very quickly that food stops tasting very good.

In our reading today, the Lord tells his disciples that salt is a good thing, and that through their actions they should guard their saltiness. The Christian life is indeed the flavor and savor of life, and not just for us, but for the whole world.

But flavoring is not the only thing salt does. Salt preserves. It protects from going bad. Christians are meant to retain, guard and protect what is good, true and beautiful in the world and for the world. This requires us to be on guard against sin and temptation. To cut off whatever separates us from Christ or take us from our mission. Our Lord has given us the tremendous blessing and responsibility to season the world and this begins with the state and condition of our own souls and our relationship with the Truth.

Today, take a few minutes to seriously consider these questions:

  1. Do I really believe that Truth exists?
  2. Do I really believe that I am capable of bringing my life into conformity with the Truth?
  3. Where have I fallen short? What needs to be cut out of my life for the sake of the Lord’s mission?

Brothers and sisters, as the world becomes more diluted, more and more watered down we must grow saltier, for our good and the good of all His people!
