Christ is Born!
I have heard it said, that when you ask the Lord to move a mountain, don’t be surprised if He hands you a shovel. Whatever the method of moving mountains, we need faith to see it through.
In today’s reading our Lord reminds us of His amazing power, as well as the awesome gift of faith through prayer. And yet we know that faith, which is necessary for our discipleship, can be a very difficult to find at times. The classic example of this is often seen in the cry of the father to Christ “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief” (Mark 9:23-25).
C.S. Lewis, in Mere Christianity, submits that acquiring faith is much the same as acquiring manners. If you don’t have manners the fastest way to get them is to pretend you have them already. As you pretend to be polite more and more, you find yourself actually learning manners and becoming more polite. It is the same with faith. Don’t fret regarding your level of faith. Act faithfully and your faith will increase. Growth in faith will come if we continue to ask the Lord in prayer and continue to keep our eyes on Him. May we all “fake it till we make it!”
