Mark 12:28-38: We CAN Get Satisfaction!

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

What is the meaning and purpose of life?

Many people ask this question, looking for fulfillment, direction and purpose, especially today in our confused world. A collective and hungry cry can be heard from our world, which is probably best expressed by the Rolling Stones: “I can’t get no satisfaction!” Nothing seems to satisfy.

Happiness and fulfillment come from following the commandments that we have been given by the One who made and loves us. In our reading today the Lord gives us the ultimate guide to human fulfillment, the answer to that hunger in your heart and mine – Love your God with everything you have and are, and your neighbor as yourself. If you want to find your life, give it away.

How is this done? In each and every action and decision. Nothing is exempted or free from God’s purview. If we have carved out a “God free zone” we have carved ourselves an idol.

To help us follow these two greatest commandments, take a look at the Ten Commandments. The first three correspond to our relationship with God, and the next seven to our love of neighbor. Fulfillment is spelled out. We know what to do, now let us ask the Christ child to strengthen and empower us to love Him and our neighbors with all we have.
