Christ is Born!
Remember when you were younger and there was something you didn’t understand and so you brought it to your parents who realized how long it would take to try to answer the question, and how you wouldn’t get it anyway, and so they said “we’ll tell you when you’re older.” You may have not been ready to understand the truth because of your age, but at least you were interested in knowing the truth.
This is the difference between a child asking, someone who will honestly not understand, and the chief priests and scribes to which Jesus is speaking to today. Our Lord’s question reveals their true identity to be man-pleasers, and not those who have been tasked with interceding before God for the people. They lack the moral foundation to even enter into a conversation with the Lord regarding His heavenly authority.
Can we handle the truth brothers and sisters? It takes a lot of courage, especially in our modern world which would prefer not to grapple with reality but to reinvent a more accommodating one. Only through honesty with our own selves can we enter into a deep dialogue with Truth Himself.
