Glory be to Jesus Christ!
I enjoy superhero stories very much. When I was a boy I wanted very much to be Spiderman and use my powers to make the world a better place. The idea of someone who cares and “saves the day” simply because it is the right thing to do seems to be an idea which is both inspiring and yet one which is becoming more and more difficult to trust in our world. Like everything else in our culture, superheros may be becoming more advanced, amazing, powerful and more super, but they are becoming less heroic. Superhero stories remain entertaining but are becoming far less inspiring.
And that’s ok. Because at the end of the day we are not waiting for Spiderman or Superman to save us. We are waiting for the real Lord of Life- the God of heaven and earth. Christ our true God accomplished His mission through his Passion, death and Resurrection, and He comforts and inspires us not with the news that He has overcome the oppression of the Roman Empire, but that He has overcome sin and death. We are ultimately His people, the Redeemed. We wait in joyful hope for Him to wipe away our tears in His everlasting Kingdom.
Who are you waiting for to save you?
Glory be to Jesus Christ!
